Upcoming Releases and a Cover Reveal!

We’ve been busy here at Books & Boos Press, signing authors, organizing projects, laying out and editing manuscripts, and preparing for our upcoming releases.

First up: Three on a Match, our second installment in the Terror Project series, is in the final proofing stages. The book features three novellas: “Splendid Chyna” by Kristi Petersen Schoonover, “All’s Well That Ends” by g. Elmer Munson, and “Thicker Than Water” by Melissa Crandall. We know the collection is amazing, but don’t just take our word for it: Patrick Rea, the director of Nailbiter and Arbor Demon, proclaims, “Three on a Match is a frightening menagerie of horror that offers a shocking blend of well-crafted tales to keep you up at night. My imagination was fueled by this nail-biting collection!”

Ana Lucia Cortez has once again done a fantastic job on the cover, tying in elements from the first book in the series, Triplicity, while giving this collection an imagery all its own. We’re proud to reveal the cover to you now!

Opening for Submissions in June

Our dark humor anthology, tentatively titled A Sharp Stick in the Eye (and Other Funny Stories) will open for submissions from June 1–September 30. Award-winning author and editor Rob Smales is the editor on this anthology, and he wants your creepiest yet funniest stories. Think Jeff Strand or Neil Gaiman. Payment will be a flat fee of $50 per story. We’ll have more exciting announcements about this project soon, but for now, keep an eye on our submissions page!

Other News

Our imprint, Farmer’s Daughter Press, has just signed author Ken Keeney to pen a children’s Christmas picture book for release in 2018. It’s a sweet, rhyming tale of two siblings preparing for the holiday with their family. We’re also pleased to announce the cover and illustrations will be done by Ogmios, a talented artist whose previous designs can be seen in The Moon is Dead by Vlad V. and Lightning (an RPG by OTB Comics).

Finally, the third book in the Terror Project series is underway, with three more authors working on deliciously twisted tales for our final installment. We’ll keep you updated on this collection, slated for release in spring 2018!

Connecticut Author Continues Support for National Multiple Sclerosis Society with New Book: Available Now

Farmer’s Daughter Press, an imprint of Books & Boos Press, is proud to announce the release of My Mom, MS, and a Sixth-Grade Mess by Stacey Longo.

The book tells the tale of Patrick Holder, who first appeared in the children’s book My Mom Has MS (2015, Farmer’s Daughter Press), now in middle school. Patrick has problems: he has an English project due and he hasn’t read the book yet; he and his best friend like the same girl; he suspects he might have a unibrow. Oh yeah—and his mom has multiple sclerosis.

Longo wrote the book to help kids deal with their parent’s MS diagnosis, and a portion of every sale of this book is donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She also raises money for National Multiple Sclerosis Society and walks in a yearly MS Walk.

The book’s cover art and interior images were also illustrated by Longo, and the subject matter is personal. “My friend Renee was diagnosed with MS in 2008, and the way she and her family rallied to make the best of her situation was amazing.” The protagonist of the books—Patrick Holder—is based on Renee’s youngest son, and many members of her family make appearances in the latest book.

‘Tricks and Treats’ Earns Best Anthology Award

Tricks and Treats: A Collection of Spooky Stories by Connecticut Authors has won the Preditors & Editors Poll for Anthologies. We want to thank all the authors in the anthology: Melissa Crandall, Dan Foley, Stacey Longo, G. Elmer Munson, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, Ryanne Strong, and John Valeri for helping to promote this great Connecticut collection.

Norwich Author’s First Children’s Book Focuses on Friendship and Not Judging Others

Norwich resident Terry George will make her debut as a children’s book author with Sasha & Jake, released October 4 from Farmer’s Daughter Press.

George, a former resident of Willimantic, wrote and illustrated the book. Her artwork and writing has been included in the Ledyard, Connecticut Bill Library’s Exquisite Project as well as in themed art shows at the Gallery at the Wauregan in Norwich. Two of her short stories, written under the pen name Ryanne Strong, have been published in the anthology Tricks and Treats: a Collection of Spooky Stories by Connecticut Authors. When she’s not writing, Terry sculpts home décor and jewelry from polymer clay for her company, Cinnamon Bunny.

Sasha & Jake is the tale of Sasha, an Arctic fox befriended by a polar bear named Jake. The other animals of the tundra are afraid of Jake, simply because he has sharp claws and big teeth. Sasha must decide for herself if Jake’s appearance as a scary bear or his kindness and generosity are what’s most important. “We jumped at the chance to publish this book,” said Farmer’s Daughter Press editor Stacey Harris. “The story is charming, the illustrations are adorable, and in the end, it sends a positive message to kids to not judge others by their appearance.”

Halloween Anthology Now Available

The anthology showcases scary stories from famous past Nutmeggers Mark Twain, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and John G. C. Brainard. Contemporary Connecticut authors include Stacey Longo, Melissa Crandall, G. Elmer Munson, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, Dan Foley, John Valeri, and Ryanne Strong.

The collection was edited by Longo, who pursued the project “to celebrate our state’s rich literary heritage, and to pay homage to New England’s ghostly history.” Each story comfortably fits in the genre of dark fiction. “Readers may be surprised to find that Twain, Stowe, and Perkins, for example, had ghost stories among their past published tales,” said Longo. The collection will be released on September 1 “just in time for the change in season.”

Our Latest Undertaking: The Terror Project

The project is a series of novella collections. Each installment will contain three novellas, with three books currently in the works.
The first installment, Triplicity: The Terror Project, Vol. 1, will debut in December 2016. Triplicity is comprised of “Steel” by Tony Tremblay (The Seeds of Nightmares), “The Christmas Spirit” by Rob Smales (Echoes of Darkness), and “Brando and Bad Choices” by Stacey Longo (Ordinary Boy). “We couldn’t be happier with the starting lineup,” said Marketing Director Jason Harris. “We’re coming out strong with this trio of impressive writers.”

The second installment is scheduled for release in fall 2017, and the third has a tentative release date of early 2018.
