Recent Events

Recently, we attended two events to promote our authors, their books, and the other books we have published.

Queen City Kamikaze in Manchester, New Hampshire, was the first event we attended. This convention is a one-day show that has been going on for the past four years. This year we were joined by our authors Stacey Longo and Rob Smales. We also invited friend and fellow author Tony Tremblay to  sell his books at our tables.

This past Friday, we set-up our books at the Author by the Sea event organized by the New England Author Expo. This event was held at Elks Lodge in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We were happy to have Smales at our table once again.2016-03-18 13.16.28-1

Echoes of Darkness is already earning advance praise. “Rob Smales’s prose is seamless and effective, engaging the reader and enticing them in,” stated Bram Stoker Award nominee and author Hal Bodner.

Advance Praise for ‘Echoes of Darkness’

Echoes of Darkness by Rob Smales, to be released at the end of February by Books & Boos Press, is already garnering advance praise.

2016-01-10 16.12.33

“Reading Rob Smales’s collection Echoes of Darkness is a lot like munching on barbeque potato chips—once you’ve dived into the first story, it’s almost impossible not to keep reading until the end. Smales has a refreshing, clean prose style that is accessible and engaging. In particular, I recommend this book to readers who are new to the genre, as Smales comes up with some nifty and clever riffs on some traditional horror tropes,” says Bram Stoker Award nominated writer Hal Bodner. Bodner  is the author of The Trouble With Hairy and Bite Club.

“The writing of Rob Smales hits you like a whip cracking against a spine. Your flesh tears with each whack, yet you keep asking for more, and no matter how bloody and painful the night becomes, you pray it never ends,” Max Booth III, author of How to Successfully Kidnap Strangers, said.

Alex Scully recently reviewed Echoes of Darkness for The Horror Review. “Smales tosses the traditions of genre by taking classic tropes like zombies, and giving his readers a wicked twist in the end. We all know how zombie stories end, right? Think again. ‘A Night at the Show,’ the second tale in this collection, illustrates the Smales touch wonderfully. A werewolf story. Nicely done. Well written. Fantastic characters, and then . . . the end. Woah! Was that what I expected? Not in the least.” (To read Scully’s full review, please visit http://www.horrorreview.com/echoes-of-darkness-book-review/.)

Readers will be able to purchase Echoes of Darkness on Feb. 28 from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and select retail stores. Smales will be signing copies of his book at Queen City Kamikaze in Manchester, NH on March 12, and at Super MegaFest in Marlborough, MA on April 8–10.

2015-11-25 20.15.15We at Books & Boos Press wants to give our readers a chance to fill their Kindles and other e-readers with spiders. We are giving away e-book copies of Where Spiders Fear to Spin by Peter N. Dudar from Nov. 27 through 30! Don’t miss this chance to read this novella by Dudar, who is a Bram Stoker Award Finalist.

Where Spiders Fear to Spin tells the tale of former soap opera star Sadie Mills, a woman literally haunted by her past whose final days are filled with horror. Her daughter resents taking care of her, her former lovers are dying off one by one, and her dead husband’s vengeful ghost has returned from the dead to drag her to hell.

unnamedAlong with giving away Spiders, we have lowered the price on Insanity. You can now get $2 off the e-book or print copy of Insanity Tales II: The Sense of Fear until Nov. 30.

The collection features eleven stories from six of New England’s finest storytellers. David Daniel, Stacey Longo, Dale T. Phillips, Rob Smales, and Ursula Wong each have two short stories in the book; Vlad V. contributed a novella. Multiple Bram Stoker winner Joe McKinney (Crooked HousePlague of the Undead) wrote the foreword.

The book is a themed anthology: each author based their stories on different senses, going beyond the traditional (sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste) to elements such as a sense of doom, of powerlessness to control the future, and a sense of false hope.

Insanity Tales II: The Sense of Fear

INSANITY TALES II IS NOW AVAILABLE

Insanity Tales II

Books & Boos Press is excited to announce the release of Insanity Tales II: The Sense of Fear. This anthology showcases six of New England’s finest storytellers in a terrifying collection out just in time for the Halloween season.

Insanity Tales II features ten short stories and a novella. David Daniel (Goofy Foot, Reunion), Stacey Longo (Ordinary Boy, Secret Things), Dale T. Phillips (A Memory of Grief, Shadow of the Wendigo), Rob Smales (Dead of Winter, the upcoming Echoes of Darkness), and Ursula Wong (Purple Trees, the upcoming Amber Wolf) contributed two short stories each. Vlad V. (Brachman’s UnderworldThe Moon is Dead!) wrote a novella for the collection.

Each story focuses on a sense—not just the traditional ones of sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste, but also of intangible ones, like a sense of justice or impending doom. The result is a suspenseful and terrifying anthology. Multiple Stoker Award winner Joe McKinney wrote the foreword, and said “If you haven’t read any of these authors yet, I envy you, because you are about to have a truly great reading experience.”

Insanity Tales II: The Sense of Fear is available on Amazon in print here or as an e-book here. It is also available wherever books are sold. For additional works by these talented authors, their first anthology, Insanity Tales, is also available here.

This was my 4th year being involved with this event. This involvement has always been with bringing authors and books to the Open Air Market. The market has always been successful and always has a lot of people coming out to it. This year was the busiest I have ever seen it. The attendance for this year’s event blows the other year’s attendance out of the water.
